The police in Kanungu district are holding a 64-year-old man for allegedly tricking two girls aged seven and nine years before defiling them in turns.
Yonasi Kwitegeka, alias Shwenkuru (grandfather) and a resident of Rwenyerere cell in Kihihi Town Council arrested by police in Kanungu for allegedly having carnal knowledge of two girls, both daughters of his neighbour.
Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed the incident, saying that according to investigators at Kihihi Police Station, the victims (girls) were sent to the suspect’s home to collect passion fruits in the early days of May 2026 at Rwenyerere cell.
“Instead, the suspect used this chance and promised the victims money, hence luring them into sexual acts,’ Maate explained.
It is further alleged that the old man defiled the girls more than three times on different days. “And that each time he did it, he would scare the victims and ask them not to reveal the matter to their mother,” Maate said.
However, the girls’ mother got concerned when she saw her daughters walking in a funny way and their health condition worsening.
“The mother got concerned and demanded an answer from the scared girls, who later narrated to her how the said suspect had been defiling them and promised that he would give them money,” Maate said, adding that the shocked mother rushed to police and reported the matter.
The police opened up a case against Kwitegeka at Kihihi police station and accordingly apprehended him. Inquiries into the case are ongoing, according to Maate, and upon completion, the suspect will be produced before court to answer charges of aggravated defilement
