Eighteen new appointments and 10 transfers have been made in the latest reshuffle by the Commissioner General of Prisons, Dr Johnson Byabashaija.
The latest reforms within the institution have also seen prison officers granted leave.
All this is "part of ongoing efforts to professionalise" the UPS and "improve service delivery", UPS spokesperson Frank Baine Mayanja said in a press statement on Thursday.
The new appointments have been made at incarceration facilities, including Murchison Bay Prison in Kampala, Ragem Prison in Pakwach district and Patongo Main Prison in Agago district.
The full lists have been posted in the UPS social media platform X.
Among the transfers include Sam Bagonza from Ragem Prison to Kagadi Prison and Edrine Kitumba from Erute Prison to Bulaula Prison.
Esther Lamunu has been moved from Ngogwe Prison to Luzira Women Prison while Leonard Walukana has been transferred from Kagadi Prison to Kabonera Prison.
Spokesperson Baine said the changes take immediate effect, with all regional and district prisons commanders directed to oversee all handovers and takeovers.
It is a second such reshuffle within the Prisons Service in under a year.
Last May, UPS announced significant appointments, transfers, and leaves for senior officers, also meant to enhance professionalism and improve service delivery.
