The 14th Kenya–Uganda Joint Border Commission Meeting has officially kicked off today, November 26, 2025, in Uganda's Mbale city!

The session brings together key stakeholders from both nations to address border management, cross-border trade, security cooperation, and the strengthening of bilateral relations.

A vital step toward enhancing regional integration, boosting economic opportunities, and ensuring seamless movement for communities along our shared border.

The meeting involving officials from the two sister countries follows earlier ones, one involving the sister countries' trade ministers earlier this year.

The two ministers, on the directives of the two Presidents, convened a meeting on July 31, 2025, in Nairobi city, Kenya and agreed to exchange lists of all products affected by non-tariff barriers (NTBs) and thereafter convene a technical meeting in Mbale City from August 18 to 22 to consider the exchanged lists.

The technical officers were also directed to undertake assessments at the borders of Suam, Busia, Malaba and Lwakhakha to ascertain the causes of delays and congestion at those borders and provide comprehensive recommendations to the Ministers on how to resolve the barriers during their meeting of August 29 to 30.

During an earlier meeting, Uganda's trade state minister Gen. Wilson Mbasu Mbadi and Kenya's investments, trade and industry ministry cabinet secretary Lee Kinyanjui, committed to eliminating all existing Tariffs and NTBs hindering trade between the two countries and fully implementing all trade-related commitments under the EAC Treaty and Protocols. In this regard, the Ministers agreed to remove all discriminatory excise duties, levies and other charges of equivalent effects
