A total of 130 suspected criminals have been apprehended following an extensive joint security operation conducted across the Kampala Metropolitan Policing (KMP) area.

The operation, carried out on the evening of April 10, 2025, was initiated in response to growing concerns from local communities about rising criminal activity in specific areas of Kampala, Mukono, and Wakiso districts.

According to KMP spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, the goal of the operation was to strengthen public safety and combat the surge in crime following a public outcry.

Onyango said in a statement issued on  April 11, 2025, that the security sweep was intelligence-led and involved coordinated efforts between the Uganda Police Force, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), and local leaders.

One of the key raids took place between 5:30 pm and midnight in high-risk areas including Nakivubo Channel near Container Village, Owino, Kisenyi, and Musajjalumbwa in the Central Part of Kampala.

The zones Onyango said had been identified as hotspots for criminal activity such as robberies around Nakivubo Channel, Gwanda Taxi Park, New Taxi Park, and surrounding areas.

A total of 62 suspects were arrested during the operation and are currently detained at Old Kampala Police Station, awaiting court proceedings.

In Wakiso District, security forces carried out another operation in the villages of Magogo, Kyegobo, Zimudi, and Bukerekere in Kakiri Sub-County.

This resulted in the arrest of 28 suspects, who are being held at Kakiri Police Station pending screening and prosecution.

Further arrests were made in Mukono District, specifically in Mbalala, Nakapyini, and Nasuti within Nama Sub-County and Mukono Central Division.

He said the spots are notorious for criminal activities including drug use and robbery.

Onyango said 14 suspects were taken into custody during the operation.

Two additional sweeps were conducted in Kawempe Division, targeting Maganjo-Janjawaza, Kawanda-Kirinyabigo, and Tula-Mugalu zones, where 26 individuals were arrested. Simultaneously, operations in Kasangati covered areas such as Namaina, Kabubu, Nakwero, and Kijabijjo, leading to more arrests.

Onyango emphasized that these coordinated efforts are part of a broader strategy to ensure community safety.
