LUGAZI - On Saturday, December 13, Honourable Justice Henry Kawesa, resident judge, Tororo High Court, celebrated 33 years with his wife, Pr. Monica Kawesa, a lawyer, at their residence in Lugazi.

They did this by renewing their vows at Power of God Worship Centre Church, Lugazi, and after which, they had a reception at Metha Gardens, Lugazi.

The presiding Apostle of the Bornagain Faith in Uganda. Dr. Joseph Sserwadda was the main celebrant of the service. He led the couple in renewing their marital vows and re-commitment to one another.

Also, the senior pastor of Victory Christian Centre, Ndeeba, Dr. Serwadda, while officiating the couple’s marriage, said love is not about perfect people, but about those who forgive each other all the time.

During those years, Dr. Serwadda says the couples faced different temptations that can even destroy their marriage under normal circumstances, but because of love, they persevered. “Even if they try to destroy love, love will still stand,” he said.

Dr. Serwadda advised married couples to forgive their spouses and not even think of divorce.

“It is sad to say that today divorce and separation are at their highest in the church,” he said.

Dr.  Sserwadda called upon married couples to stay in their marriage and forgive one another. “Husbands are called upon to love their wives as Christ forgave the church by the Bible,” he says.  “Love keeps loving even in bad situations.”

For marriage to work, Sserwadda says, love does not expect the other party to do their part. Instead, the other person does what is expected of him or her without waiting to be reciprocated.

The couple attributed their long-lasting marriage to loving and forgiving each other.  Judge Kawesa said their belief in God helped them navigate these 33 years.

“There is no other woman I would pick except my wife,” Kawesa attested before putting a ring on his wife. “We have been together through many different situations, including the birth of our beautiful children, the death of loved ones, and the growth of business, faith, and career.”

Likewise, Monica revealed that she would choose her husband over and over again. “He is a serious man dedicated to the services of God and his people,” she said.

“When we first met, I saw a man who was committed to God.  If God gives me another chance to choose another man, I will choose you.”

The Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Jacob Markson Oboth, who was the guest of honour, said the Kawesas were exemplary in the community.

“Marriage renewal is a celebration of marriage, union, leadership, history together,” he says.

Oboth said that for a stable country, families should be strong and united, and it all starts with a good marriage.

On the other hand, Apollo Yeri Ofwono, a member of parliament for Tororo municipality, said the renewal of marriage by the Kawesas is going to help other people work on their relationships.

This, in turn, will make their marriages stronger and thus build happy family lives.
