The sports enthusiasts in Jinja City, will starting on Thursday January 25, receive the sports entertainment of their liking when Elite Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) sports school teams take to the grounds and courts to compete at this year's edition of the USSSA elite games, the secondry schools 2024 national sports competitions curtain raiser games to be hosted at Jinja SS Thursday January 25-Saturday 27.

The three-day competition that pits the top 8 teams in selected disciplines of the previous national competitions, gets underway this Thursday at the hosting Jinja SS and co-hosts Jinja College School.

The tournament competition has been expanded with the addition of two more disciplines handball and racket games (tennis and table tennis), adding to netball, football, volleyball, basketball and basketball 3x3.

This means the top 8 teams in USSSA boys football in Kabalore last year, top 8 in Fresh Diary games (girls football, basketball, tennis and table tennis) and the best 8 in USSSA ball games II (volleyball, netball and basketball 3x3) will be competing for honours.

According to USSSA CEO Chris Mugisha, this year’s edition has more teams in participation because of the added disciplines and also the importance the school teams are looking at into the tournament.

However, the event will not have national and FEASSSA boys football and netball champions St Mary’s Kitende, but the rest of the powerhouses Buddo SS, Jinja SS, Jinja College, Amus College, Standard High Zzana, Namugongo Vocational Kawempe Moslem, St Noa Girls, Boni Consilii and new challengers Bukedea Comprehensive, have confirmed their participation.

Jinja SS that will provide boys’ accommodation, will be co-hosting the event with Jinja College that will host the girls.

Samuel Mugabi, the hosting school games teacher expressed his gratitude to USSSA for choosing their school as hosts and believes this will leave a good mark in the entire Jinja City community.
