Keep marital issues in your bedroom, couples told

This was a call by Fr Basil Fredrick Mirundi, the Dean of Entebbe Deanery, on Saturday (September 27) as he presided over a mass wedding of 15 couples at St Padre-Pio Catholic Parish, Kabulamuliro in Kampala.

Married couples have been urged to resolve their marital issues internally and not put them out for public debate.

This was a call by Fr Basil Fredrick Mirundi, the Dean of Entebbe Deanery, on Saturday (September 27) as he presided over a mass wedding of 15 couples at St Padre-Pio Catholic Parish, Kabulamuliro in Kampala.

Mirundi said besides keeping their marital problems within their homes, couples should also refrain from involving their children, especially the young ones.

"Parents, leave your issues in your bedrooms."

Mirundi also spoke against materialism, urging women to avoid asking or demanding expensive items from their husbands, such as cars, yet knowing all too well that they cannot afford them.

“Marriage is about unity, love for one another, for woman and man," he preached, also urging men to be responsible husbands by caring and supporting their families and avoiding temptations.

The priest's message reached not only the 15 newly-weds, but also the hundreds of people who gathered at St Padre-Pio Catholic Parish to witness the nuptials.

Family members and friends of the couples were present to grace the colourful ceremony.

The mass wedding was organised by Entebbe Deanery Catholic Charismatic Renewal in partnership with Kabulamuliro Parish.

Mirundi was assisted by Fr Remigius Kasibante (parish priest of Kabulamuliro), Fr Francis Ssekulima (shrine rector), Fr Vincent Mawejje (assistant youth chaplain of Kampala Archdiocese), Fr Richard Ogwom (assistant chaplain of Ggogonya Sisters) and Fr Joseph Kyeyune.

Some of the couples had been live-in partners for many years.

Meanwhile, the marrieds were urged against intrusive and sneaky behaviour, such as checking a spouse's phone without their knowledge.

Mirundi also advised relatives to allow couples the space and time to run their own marriages, although offering guidance and counselling occasionally is welcome.

"Parents and relatives, stop stepping in your children's homes every time! What do you want from there? The nuclear family has father, mother and children.”

On his part, parish priest Fr Kasibante hailed the Entebbe Deanery Charismatic Renewal for choosing Kabulamuliro to be this year's host of the mass wedding.

He also thanked the couples for being receptive to receiving the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony.
