KAMULI - As the adage goes, hell knows no fury like a woman scorned, residents of Kamuli district were left in shock after a woman was arrested for allegedly attempting to murder by mutilating her husband’s genitals following a domestic dispute.

The victim has been identified as Richard Masanka, 60, a businessman and resident of Busoigo cell, Kasoigo ward, northern division in Kamuli municipality, while the suspected woman has only been identified as Rehema, 40.

Initial findings indicate that on June 6, 2025, the duo was at home and at around 11:00 pm, Masanka went to bed, leaving his wife outside.

While in bed, deep asleep, his wife allegedly attacked him, whereby she attempted to strangle him before cutting off his left testicle using a sharp knife.

“Due to too much pain, Masanka made an alarm which attracted neighbours who rushed him to Kwagala Medical Centre-Buwengempya and later referred to Kamuli General Hospital,” Kasadha Mcheal, the Busoga North spokesperson, said.

However, the victim was later referred to another hospital in Mukono district for further management due to the complex injuries.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the couple had been experiencing ongoing marital disagreements, which reportedly intensified over accusations of infidelity and financial neglect.

Woman arrested

Kasadha, while speaking to New Vision Online on June 8, 2025, confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect was taken into custody and is being held at Kamuli Central Police Station. She will be charged with attempted murder and assault under the Penal Code Act.

Kasadha said that as police, they condemn the attack and similar acts of violence, adding that they remain committed to ensuring that such acts are dealt with expeditiously.

He urged couples facing conflict to seek counselling or legal redress and avoid acts of violence that destroy lives and families.

“We condemn this act of domestic violence in the strongest terms. While we understand domestic disputes arise, violence is never a solution. This is now a criminal matter and will be handled accordingly,” he said.

The Police have urged the public to seek peaceful means of resolving domestic issues and encouraged couples to pursue counselling and mediation services where needed.

Further inquiries are ongoing to establish the motive behind the attack. Rehema remains in custody as investigations continue, and she is expected to appear in court early next week.
