Question: Dear Doctor, I am a female aged 49 and I am a desk worker at an office. A week ago, I noticed that both my legs swell around the ankle and foot area by evening time, and they also hurt. I am worried, what could this be? How can I stop them from swelling?
Lydia
Answer
Dear Lydia, Sorry about the swelling of your feet. Sometimes swelling of the feet is caused by poor posture, especially if the blood is not flowing well to the feet.
Drinking excessive water may cause swelling of the feet because often water goes where it is lowest. You have to make sure your kidneys, and liver are okay.
I advise you to do a urinalysis, kidney and liver function test to make sure they are functioning properly. When those are okay, you can then check your heart.
