Soroti Regional Referral Hospital in Uganda's eastern city of Soroti has operationalised a fully equipped Accident and Emergency Unit to address the high volume of trauma cases received daily, averaging about 20 accident victims.
The new unit, established under an ongoing renovation project, has been fitted with essential equipment and facilities to ensure immediate and specialised emergency care.
Dr Ben Watmon, the director of the hospital, said the new facility could not have come at a more critical time. The hospital has been struggling to manage accident victims due to congestion and limited space.
He said the relocation of the dental unit to the former blood bank space made room for the Accident & Emergency Unit.
Meanwhile, hospital nutritionist Moris Enabu said many patients come to the regional referral hospital because it provides advanced and specialised services.
