SC Villa kept their hopes of winning the Uganda Premier League title alive when they came from 2-0 down to beat Wakiso Giants 3-2 at Wankulukuku Stadium.

The Jogoos came into Wednesday's encounter with hopes of winning having lost to KCCA 2-0 in the previous fixture.  Indeed, they showed character in the second half as they managed to score three goals.

Samson Kigozi gave Wakiso Giants the lead with five minutes left to half-time through captain Hassan Ssenyonjo’s assist. At the restart of the second half, Sharif Kimbowa made it 2-0 for Wakiso in the 51 minutes. Seven minutes later, Ronald Ssekiganda scored for Villa off Garvin Kizito’s assist and thereafter, Umar Lutalo made it 2-2 through a penalty in the 79th minute

Substitute Reagan Mpande helped Villa win it late in the 85th minute after he slotted the ball past Wakiso goalkeeper Bashir Sekagya.

The victory saw Villa move to 48 points in fourth position. They have the same number of points just like third-placed Kitara though the Royals have a better goal difference.

Ssekiganda who was the man of the match revealed that they have to handle the remaining games with a lot of care.

“This is a big victory in our journey to battle for the title. If we can continue performing like this, I believe we can finish the season on a high note. We know the remaining games are not easy but we are going to fight hard to see that we get results from them,” noted Ssekiganda.

However, for Wakiso Giants, the result saw them remain 12th with 29 points, four points above those in the relegation battle.

Their captain Ssenyonjo has promised to see that they bounce back.

“We had handled the game very well but we only relaxed in the second half. But we shall try to see that we rectify our mistakes and do better in the remaining games,” noted Ssenyonjo.

Elsewhere, Soltilo Bright Stars settled to a 1 - 1 draw with NEC at Kavumba Recreation ground.
