MBARARA - A bodaboda rider operating in Mbarara City was knocked dead on Thursday by a speeding truck.

A woman on the same bike (passenger) was critically injured and rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.

Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region Police spokesperson said, the accident, which occurred at around 10:23am near Rwizi Arch Hotel along Kabale-Mbarara Road involved a truck (Mitsubishi FUSO) and Motorcycle (Boxer).

He explained that a truck loaded with building materials (Tiles) was headed toward Kabale and collided with a commuter motorcycle (Bodaboda).

Bodaboda riders in the city identified the deceased as Innocent Gumoshabe alias Mukiga, operating at Sedi stage in Katete, Nyamitanga in Mbarara City South Division.

A police hunt is on for the three unidentified people aboard the truck including the driver who fled the scene.

The truck towered to Mbarara police station on Thursday remained unclaimed.
