with the Rotary Foundation All-Giving Club and Rotary Foundation Annual Fund Share Per Capita distinction awards at the prestigious 99th District Conference and Assembly of Rotary District 9214.

The event, held at Speke Resort Munyonyo from April 24-27, under the theme ‘Hope Uniting Hearts’, showed the club’s unwavering dedication and innovative spirit, which were celebrated with the awards.

Over 1,000 delegates from Rotary districts 9213 (Uganda), 9214 (part of Uganda and the whole of Tanzania), plus international districts, gathered to share experiences, forge collaborations, and reaffirm their dedication to serving communities.

Joseph B. Ssengooba, the District Rotaract Representative (DRR) for D9214 (2024-2025), said the conference was a resounding success, uniting Rotarians under the banner of service and reaffirming Rotary’s enduring commitment to making a meaningful difference in the world.

He revealed that the Kigo Rotary Club’s journey continues, fueled by the spirit of fellowship, innovation, and service, as they strive to create a brighter future for all.

The event’s significance was underscored by the presence of distinguished figures such as Prof. P.L.O. Lumumba, whose captivating keynote address ignited the conference with passion and purpose. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, Deputy Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.

The Kigo Rotary Club’s journey to recognition began with the Innovative Use of Online Tools award, earning them praise and acknowledgment for technological innovation.

A defining moment of pride and honour arrived with the recognition of the Kigo Rotary Club’s exceptional contribution of over $10,000 (sh38.1m) to the Rotary Foundation.

This significant donation earned them the coveted Governor’s Special Award, presented by District Governor Francisco Ssemwanga, further solidifying their reputation as champions of service excellence.

The pinnacle of achievement came with the announcement of President Margaret Naimanye as the recipient of the esteemed Hope Creator President of the Year Award.

According to Ssengooba, the accolade not only recognised her exceptional leadership during the 2023–2024 term but also symbolised her role as a visionary who inspires hope and fosters unity within the Rotary community.

Furthermore, Kigo Rotary Club’s baby club, the Rotaract Club of Kigo, scooped the ‘Rising Star Club’ award, showcasing Rotary Kigo’s enduring commitment to inspiring and empowering the youth to take action, make a difference, and become the leaders of tomorrow.

Ssengooba noted that the 99th District Conference and Assembly transcended mere awards and accolades; the event served as a powerful testament to the transformative impact of collective action and persistent hope.

The speakers at the conference remarked that it reaffirmed Rotary’s relentless commitment to making a significant difference in local and global communities.

As the Kigo Rotary Club returned home with a renewed sense of purpose, he said their success served as a beacon, inspiring others to join the Rotary movement and become catalysts for positive change in their communities.
