Uganda’s Kawempe Muslim Secondary School Girls football team stormed the semifinals of the CAF African Schools Football Championship after completing its group stage matches unbeaten.

Kawempe topped Group B with seven points from two wins against The Gambia (2-0) and Togo (2-0), and a 1-1 draw with South Africa.

The CAF African Schools Football Championships (U-15) is underway at Amaan Stadium in Tanzania’s semi-autonomous region of Zanzibar and will climax on Friday.

Uganda’s two schools, St Mary's Boarding Secondary School for boys and Kawempe for girls are the champions of the CECAFA region which earned them tickets to the finals.

Unfortunately, Kitende has been eliminated after losing to Tanzania 1-0 and drawing their second match against Senegal to finish bottom of their three-team group.

Uganda (Kawempe) will face Morocco while hosts Tanzania will battle South Africa in the semifinals on Thursday, and the final will be played on Friday.

The winner of this tournament in each category is assured of shs1.1b ($300,000), runners-up ($200,000), and the third-placed team ($150,000) from the Motsepe Foundation of CAF president Dr Patrice Motsepe.

This money is however not given directly to the respective winners but rather, CAF uses it to develop facilities at these schools such as training grounds, and playing surfaces among other football developmental programs of their choice.
