Kabalega FM’s free health camp benefits over 1,500 in Hoima

Over 1,500 people on Sunday benefited from free healthcare services organised by Vision Group’s 106.9 Kabalega FM during World AIDS Day celebrations in Buraru sub-county, Hoima district.

The health camp, set up at Buraru Health Centre III, offered various services at no cost, including HIV testing, cervical cancer screening, syphilis testing, counselling, and health education.

William Kamulegeya, a laboratory technician at Buraru Health Centre III, shared that among the beneficiaries, 250 people tested for HIV, with two new cases confirmed.

In addition, 200 individuals were screened for cervical cancer, 500 were tested for syphilis, and 200 for tuberculosis, among other illnesses.

Many beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the health services provided. Richard Kwikiriza, the in-charge of Buraru Health Centre III, highlighted that the sub-county records a high number of new HIV infections, with 12 new cases reported in the previous quarter alone.

He commended Kabalega FM for its initiative in cleaning the facility during the World AIDS Day celebrations, noting that the station has made a significant impact in fighting the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS.

Martin Kaahwa Isaac, the Kabalega FM station manager, thanked the community for embracing the free healthcare services and encouraged them to continue tuning in to the station.
