Health officers cry out as RDCs, LCVs take over official vehicles

“These vehicles were meant for health service delivery, but now they’re parked at the homes of politicians or used for non-health-related activities,” said Dr Paul Onzubo, the district health officer of Maracha. “Meanwhile, we’re grounded and unable to reach health facilities or respond to outbreaks.”

According to the officers, although government distributed more than 282 pickups in 2021 to support COVID-19 response efforts, many of the vehicles have since been commandeered by resident district commissioners (RDCs), district chairpersons and chief administrative officers (CAOs).
