The Ministry of Health has met stakeholders in the Acholi sub-region ahead of the planned mass distribution of mosquito nets.

The meeting, held on Wednesday and Thursday at the Global Friendship Hotel in Gulu City, brought together district health officers, district chairpersons and resident district commissioners, among other officials.

Speaking to participants, Dr. Moses Adriko, Senior Entomologist in charge of the Malaria Elimination Division and Vector Control at the Ministry of Health, revealed that the distribution of mosquito nets is expected to begin between late March and mid-next month (April).

So far, most districts have already received their consignments and are now awaiting guidelines from the Ministry of Health on how the nets will be distributed to beneficiaries.

According to Dr Adriko, the recent Malaria Indicator Survey (UMIS 2024) shows that malaria prevalence remains high in the Acholi sub-region, rising to 23 percent from 12 percent in 2023.

This increase has prompted the urgent distribution of mosquito nets.

Leonard Ojok, the Agago District Chairperson, emphasised the need for proper sensitisation of communities to ensure that households use the nets effectively in the fight against malaria.
