Pader District leadership has asked the Health Ministry to upgrade Pajule Health Centre IV to a general hospital.
Benson Opiyo, the acting District Health Officer, stated that although the Ministry of Health had previously considered this upgrade, no action has been taken to improve the facility.
Currently, the health facility is responsible for addressing the health needs of the district, which has a population of more than 240,159 people.
Pader District comprises of 18 sub-counties, but only nine of these have Health Centre III facilities, with others having Health Centre IIs.
Fearless Oyat Obwoya, the Pader District Chairperson, emphasised that the district council has prioritised the upgrade of Pajule Health Centre IV and has fulfilled all requirements set by the Ministry of Health for this upgrade.
Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, the Minister of Health, however, reaffirmed the government's commitment to upgrading Pajule Health Centre IV and similar Health Centre IVs in other districts that lack general hospitals.
However, due to financial constraints, the government has decided to implement the upgrade projects in phases, according to her.
