As part of celebrations to mark 15 years of service to the Teso community, Etop Radio in partnership with Soroti regional referral hospital blood bank transfusion services this week conducted a blood donation drive in seven districts in Teso.
At least 640 units of blood were collected from Saturday September 14th- 20th of September this year.
The blood donation drive started at Akisim Primary School in Pallisa district, followed by Etop radio's Erikot lo Agaali market Activations at Adipala-Juba cattle market in Kapelebyong, Kasilo market in Serere, Wera market in Amuria, Arapai market in Soroti and summarised at Ocorimongin cattle market in Katakwi District.
The blood bank together with Etop has since Monday awarded certificates of recognition to people who have donated blood more than ten times.
The Etop Radio’s sales executive and branding officer, Anthony Otuba is among the people awarded.
Martha Ajilong, the senior blood donor recruiter and coordinator at Soroti hospital expressed gratitude to Vision Group's Etop Radio for partnering with them to support the sick people who need blood.
“We are humbled and will always work with you, our dear partner, to save the lives of the people,” she said on Friday, September 20, 2024.
According to her, the Teso region has for the first time in several years managed to stock enough blood during the just concluded holidays.
In recent years, Soroti Hospital's blood bank which supplies blood to the lower health facilities across Teso has been grappling with a shortage of blood, especially during school holidays.
Majority of the blood donors in the region are learners from different institutions, according to the blood donor recruiters.
Ajilong said they had to change strategies to manage to stock blood even during holidays.
Stella Akia, Etop Radio's promotions officer said the radio will always continue partnering with Blood Bank to save the lives of their listeners.
“As a radio, we always give back to the community. We need our listeners to be healthy. This is why we shall continue partnering with the blood bank to save the lives of our listeners,” Akia said.
Several people were grateful to Etop radio for the drive.
