Residents of Amuru district are in panic as the cholera outbreak continues to spread to more sub-counties, with additional fatalities being reported.
Geoffrey Osborn Oceng, the Amuru resident district commissioner who also chairs the district cholera task force, confirmed that one person died from the disease last week in Okidi South village, Okidi parish, Opara sub-county.
According to Oceng, samples from the deceased were taken to the government laboratory in Entebbe for further analysis after initial Rapid Diagnostic Tests returned positive results.
He noted that the outbreak, which was first reported in Elegu town council and Bibia, is now rapidly spreading to Atiak, Pabbo, and Opara subcounties, as well as Pabbo town council.
The district has allocated over sh900 million to fight the disease, and the cholera task force has intensified community sensitisation campaigns aimed at curbing further spread.
