The Prime Minister (Katikkiro) of Buganda Kingdom, Charles Peter Mayiga, has told parents, especially mothers, to follow the schedules and take their children for routine vaccination.
“You should not believe the myths that babies who are vaccinated become infertile later in life because vaccinating children has proven to protect them against the killer diseases,” Mayiga said.
He was speaking during a tour at Buvuuma Health Centre IV in Buvuuma district to mark the end of his three-day visit on Buvuuma Island under the programme of enhanced intervention in Health and Agriculture project (Emwanyi Terimba) on February 11, 2026.
In attendance were Buganda Cabinet Ministers; Oweek. Hajji Amisi Kakomo, who is the Minister of agriculture; Oweek. Noah Kiyimba, who is the Minister for Cabinet and protocol affairs; and Oweek. Chotildah Nakate kikomeko, the Minister for Social Services. The commissioner at Uganda AIDS Commission Dr. Stephen Watiti and UAC’s zonal coordinator Mary Namuyomba, were also in attendance.
The move follows the dire health indicators where in the last financial year (2024/2025), Buvuuma district emerged the last in the country with an immunization coverage of 67%.
Additionally, the district was among those that grappled with measles outbreak.
The in-charge of Buvuuma Health Centre IV, Dr. Remmy Ndyanabo, attributed the poor indicators to mothers not taking their children for routine immunization.
