Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, has commended the role played by the Mothers' Union in nation-building, community development and bringing up morally upright children who glorify God.

"The role of the Mothers Union in nation-building cannot be underrated. I thank God for their planned activities and projects which I launched today. They are a great example to emulate by Fathers Union, "he added while preaching during the Provincial Mothers' Union Thanksgiving Service in his Palace in Namirembe, Kampala, on Wednesday (March 13).

While preaching during the Provincial Mothers' Union Thanksgiving Service in his Palace in Namirembe, Kampala, Archbishop Kaziimba charged mothers with protecting children by nurturing them in a Godly way, praying for them and being their role models. He challenged parents who have abandoned them.

“When you become absent in your children's lives, they are nurtured by social media, televisions and other platforms. This causes them to learn bad things which has led many of them into criminal acts.” Archbishop Kaziimba said, according to a statement on the COU website.

During the service, Kazzimba who is also the Bishop of Kampala Diocese, launched Mary’s Day, the Provincial Mothers' Union prayer guide, the gender-based violence resource manual, the environment conservation campaign and commissioned the steering committee for construction of the Provincial Mothers Union House.

In her report, the Provincial Mothers' Union President Mrs Grace Murengezi said that the members, will encourage them to plant trees at all levels within the Church structure to embrace the tree planting campaign.  She revealed that the fruit tree planting activity is to be launched at the Parish level all over the province.

She also disclosed that new projects in her tenure include enhancing their fight against gender-based violence emphasizing training, prevention, response and management.

Also fresh off her desk is the Music Dance and Drama competition from the parish level climaxing at the provincial level. According to Mrs. Murengyezi, they are planning to enhance their fight against gender-based violence by emphasizing training, prevention, response and management using Mother’s Union Listen, Observe and Act (MULOA) approach

"We intend to focus on training of our members and GBV survivors on economic empowerment and food security. We will also embark on the construction of the provincial Mother’s Union House." Mrs Murengezi said.

During the Service, the former Provincial Mothers Union President, Lay Canon Dr. Ruth Senyonyi was dedicated to the Lord as she embarks on her new appointment by the President of Uganda to chair the Uganda AIDS Commission.
