______________
KASESE - A total of 120 members of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and National Unity Platform (NUP) parties have surrendered their cards and crossed over to the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
The development was during one of the NRM monthly engagement meetings held at Kabimba Church of Uganda in Kitabo sub-county, Kasese district on Saturday.
The converts were received by the Kasese NRM executive committee led by its chairperson, Dr Chrispus Kiyonga in the presence of other NRM supporters.
They surrendered their Opposition membership cards both from NUP and FDC to completely affirm their commitment to the mighty ruling party (NRM).
Converts speak out
Mitusera Kilongotse, who was FDC general secretary for Kitabo sub-county, said that he wholeheartedly crossed to NRM having served the FDC party for over 12 years, but recording no gains.
“There is nothing I have gained from FDC,” Mitusera said.
Pelusi Matu, 70, said for many years, they have moved in the darkness because of the false propaganda of the FDC leaders who have for time and again deceived them that the NRM government has done nothing yet their children are receiving free education. he added that they are also receiving free medication at Kitabo health Center III.
Several others testified that the ongoing government initiative of the Parish Development Model programme is the key turning point as to why they have deliberately crossed over to NRM.
Kitabo Sub-County multiparty system history
Kitabo is famously known as the hot spot for the Opposition in Kasese. It is also the only sub-county in Kases where President Yoweri Museveni registered the fewest votes in the 2016 general election.
Dr Rude Monday, the NRM parliamentary post-flag-bearer for Bukonzo East said the propaganda from the FDC colleagues made it impossible for NRM to record gains in the sub-county.
Kitonga speaks out
Kiyonga attributed the huge achievement to the good works of the NRM government, including the setting up of health facilities, schools and ensuring clean water in villages.
He also commended the latest government poverty alleviation initiative.
