Wakiso woman arrested over tortured child

KAMPALA - Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, confirmed the detention of a woman linked to the torture of a 10-year-old child accused of theft. 

Rachael Kawala, KMP spokesperson, identified the suspect as 34-year-old Esther Natukunda, detained at Nateete Police Division. 

She explained that preliminary findings indicate that on Eid Day, Friday, March 20th, at approximately 1700 hours, the suspect allegedly burnt the victim’s hands using a heated polythene bag, accusing him of stealing money amounting to sh100,000.

The victim has since been rescued and received medication. 

“Police at Nateete are holding one suspect in connection with a case of child torture that occurred in Kanaala Zone, Mutundwe Parish, Bunamwaya Division, Wakiso District. The victim is a 10-year-old boy, a Primary Four pupil. It is alleged that the suspect had been entrusted with the care of the child by her brother,” Kawala said. 

Natukunda's arrest comes in the wake of a viral photo shared by a neighbour showing the injuries on both hands of the victim. 

According to a whistleblower who shared the photo, the victim, identified as Victor, was staying with Natukunda, his aunt.
