KAMPALA - As 2026 arrived, hospitals countrywide welcomed numerous babies into their labour wards.
Kawempe National Referral Hospital delivered 51 mothers. Statistics obtained from the Hospital, according to its executive director, Dr Emmanuel Byaruhanga, show that 25 were normal deliveries while 26 were by caesarean sections.
Mackline Ayinebyona, one of the lucky mothers, expressed joy for starting the year with a new baby.
“I am extremely happy to start a New Year with a gift of a baby. I am optimistic that this year will be more fruitful to me,” she said.
Ayinebyona thanked the medics at Kawempe Hospital for the love and care offered to them.
“I want to sincerely thank the doctors here because of the care given to us. They could have gone to celebrate the New year but opted to spend it with us,” Ayinebyona said.
The report also shows that the hospital had two post caesarean sections mothers with septic shock and an antenatal mother with triplets.
“We thank God that we didn’t register any death. I, therefore, thank the health workers and the staff for the job well done,” Byaruhanga said.
Parents of New Year’s babies often express special joy at welcoming a new beginning.
This is because the birth aligns perfectly with the theme of fresh starts, making it feel significant and full of hope.
