Prince Kassim Nakibinge Kakungulu, the titular head of Uganda’s Muslim community, has urged men to prepare appropriate wills in order to minimise disputes among family members over property distribution.

He made the remarks on June 22, 2025, at Bulo in Butambala district during memorial prayers for the late Abas Kasagga.

Nakibinge advised that at least four copies of a will should be made to avoid forgery and that they be entrusted to reliable individuals. He noted that having multiple copies can help facilitate the effective management of assets, especially in cases involving complex estates.

He made the remarks in light of significant conflicts that emerged within the family of the late Kasagga due to the absence of a will.

Nakibinge also urged the general public to safeguard their land titles, particularly to protect grave sites on their property.

“You should protect the grave site to preserve the family background as well as land and ensure to respect the ancestors. The more you disrespect the dead, the longer you get curses,” Nakibinge said.

The first deputy prime minister of Buganda, Twaha Kawase Kigongo, paid tribute to Kasagga, describing him as a strong man who had played a vital role in shaping cultural values and promoting religion.

Kigongo called on people to strengthen their culture, starting within the family, to help build stronger communities in the Buganda Kingdom and across Uganda.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Fahad Kasagga Kateregga, a son of the deceased, expressed gratitude to relatives, friends, and the community for their support during their difficult time. He appreciated the financial contributions, comforting words, shared memories, and presence at various events.

Who was Eng. Kasagga

Hajj Eng. Abas Kasagga passed away after collapsing while exercising at a gym in Muyenga, a suburb of Kampala. He collapsed while attempting to lift weights and was rushed to Kibuli Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Kasagga was born in 1961 in Ngando, Gomba District. He studied at Kitagobwa UMEA for his primary education and later attended Kibuli Secondary School.

After completing his education, he ventured into business. In the 1970s, he actively participated in the struggle to remove President Idi Amin. He later travelled to Arab countries to further his education.

Upon returning to Uganda, he registered a construction company and engaged in charity work. He is credited with building several mosques in the districts of Butambala, Gomba, and Mpigi.
