Kumam cultural leader, His Royal Highness Raphael Otaya, has urged parents and guardians to ensure the safety of their children this festive season by limiting unnecessary visits to relatives and public places.

His guidance is that holidays should be a time of family bonding and sharing love, which is better achieved within the household.

In his Christmas message to his subjects, Otaya has called on families to prioritise the well-being of children by celebrating the festivity with them from home.

The cultural leader's argument is that excessive movements, especially by children, often exposes them to dangers, negative influence and unhealthy behaviour that undermine proper upbringing.

He is urging communities to embrace respect, sharing, and love among one another, saying these virtues are the foundation of peaceful coexistence and strong families.

He is also reminding parents and youth alike that Christmas is not merely a season of enjoyment but also a time for reflection and strengthening relationships within families and communities.

Won Ateker Papa me Kumam has discouraged celebrations held in trading centres and entertainment spots, noting that such practices have gradually eroded family values.

And his appeal to his subjects: return to the traditional celebrations of the olden days, where families gathered at home, shared meals, told stories, and passed on cultural teachings to the younger generation.

Otaya also warned against laziness during the festive season, advising the youth to use the holiday period productively by engaging in home-based activities, helping parents, and learning cultural norms and responsibilities.
