Inside Uganda’s fatherlessness crisis and the men fighting back
Otim sees fatherlessness as a societal crisis that is becoming a silent epidemic. In Uganda, many children grow up without active father figures due to death, separation, work migration, or abandonment. Some households are headed by single mothers, widows or grandparents.
“A father’s absence can recreate itself in different forms,” Otim notes. “A man may work hard to give his children material things, but still fail to give them presence.”
