Tributes have been paid to Fr. Dr. James Kabuye, the celebrated Catholic music composer and senior cleric of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kiyinda-Mityana, who celebrated 60 years in priesthood on Thursday (December 29, 2022).
He received the praises during his thanksgiving celebration at Kiyinda-Mityana Catechetical Centre.

Among those who praised Kabuye is the reigning Bishop of Kiyinda-Mityana diocese, the Rt. Rev. Prof. Joseph Antony Zziwa, spoke highly of his loyal and dutiful sacerdotal disposition.

The Prelate also praised Kabuye for his contribution to the development of Catholic Divine Liturgy.
During the thanksgiving mass, Bishop Zziwa presented to Kabuye the Apostolic Blessing which Pope Francis imparted to him.
In his thanksgiving speech, Fr. Kabuye thanked the Christians, the priests and the religions for giving him holistic support during his ministry.
Rev. Fr. Dr. James Kabuye is Uganda’s most celebrated Catholic music writer with an incredible repertoire of over 5,000 songs.
He writes his songs in various styles, including African traditional styles such as Ganda, and the western classical genres (baroque, opera, etc).

Further to writing sacred music and working in parishes, Fr. Kabuye has also previously served as a formator of priests at St. Mary’s National Seminary Ggaba.
He also served as Rector of Sacred Heart Minor Seminary, Mubende. Fr. Kabuye, currently based at Kiyinda-Mityana Catechetical Centre, is the reigning Chairman of the Liturgical Music Committee of Kampala Ecclesiastical Province.
