ALEBTONG - Police in Alebtong District have arrested a 24-year-old woman accused of killing her one-month-old baby.

The suspect, Brenda Amongi, a resident of Akoko-woo “B” Village in Acede Parish, Awei Sub-county, was arrested after community members raised suspicion over the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death.

The death was discovered after the accused went to her co-wife's home to inform her husband's child’s father, Bosco Agole, that the baby had died.

However, residents became suspicious after learning that the mother had not informed any neighbours that the child was sick prior to the reported death.

The community immediately alerted authorities, prompting police to arrest Amongi.
The LC3 Chairperson of Awei Sub-county, Sam Oyena Obonyo, said the incident occurred at around 4:00pm on March 5.

It's alleged that Amongi became angry after Agole left home to visit his other wife shortly before the incident.

The Assistant Resident District Commissioner of Alebtong, Lameck Ongom, confirmed that his office received the report and that police have launched investigations to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the baby’s death.

Police have registered a murder case against Amongi under reference SD 03/05/03/2026, and she is currently detained at Alebtong Central Police Station pending further investigations.
