Protective hairstyles abound. They come in all sizes, styles, and woven patterns.

Their easiest and most obvious advantage is that they give the wearer a break from continuous hairstyling.

Most are cost-effective and durable, too.

Mini twists are part of protective styles and they have better advantages than some other styles.

Daisy Nalukenge, a hairstylist who specializes in plaiting hair, says that of all the protective styles, mini twists are the least strenuous on the hair.

"We don't add extensions when plaiting them. We just add a leave-in treatment, oil, and gel and twist the natural hair. It is better to plait them when the hair is damp because the product adheres best then," she says and adds," because there are no extensions, the twists are light, and the breakage is minimal."

Nalukenge also says that mini twists are not time-consuming to do. In 30-45 minutes, the hair is done, depending on the size.

Mini twists cut across ages and are suitable for children and adults.

"Children's scalps are tender and require hairstyles with minimal tension." Mini twists are perfect for this. Also, since there are no additions, it does not trap as much debris as braids, for example. "The dust, leaves, papers, and sweat find a little more porosity than in tight hairstyles," she explains.

One can even do them at home by themselves because they are easy to twist

Nalukenge says mini twists last 2-3 weeks depending on how well they are kept and they are very effective for length retention

"Spray them with water daily to prevent them from drying." After 2 weeks, you can wear them as a twist out for an extra week, which makes them an ideal hairstyle for the lazy stylist," she says.

Mini twists are a resilient style.

"Whether one goes to the gym or swims, gets beaten by the rain, the twists stay intact and they easily dry because they are more porous than most styles," she says.

Depending on the salon, the style costs between sh 25,000- 40,000.
