By 34 years, singer Lydia Jazmine dreamed of a successful career, a doting husband and children. The latter remains a figment of her fertile imagination.
The singer has opened up about the hidden struggles female celebrities face when it comes to dating, where she paints a not-so-glossy picture.
The Kindekere singer reveals that a combination of factors like navigating the public eye, managing privacy concerns and discerning genuine intentions from potential suitors have put her and many off relationships, which has ironically put them up for scrutiny.
Speaking to a podcast, she said, “We are objectified a lot. People see us as beautiful celebs with great bodies, so forming meaningful relationships can be hard. It is hard to tell whether one has genuine intentions or is just looking for fame and attention in pursuing you,” she said.
According to her, even men with genuine intentions often shy away because of insecurities about status and the fear that celebrities are “too high maintenance”.
Jazmine claims some men date female stars with the hidden agenda of secretly recording intimate moments, later threatening to leak them for blackmail. “We are also scared,” she explained. “When a man approaches me, I ask myself so many questions. Some have been recorded without their knowledge or consent. Sometimes you stay with someone you don’t even like just because you feel safer than risking someone new.”
For Jazmine and many other women in the spotlight, love isn’t about romance—it’s a careful balancing act between trust, safety, and avoiding heartbreak in the public eye.
The singer has previously been linked with singer Fik Fameica, which she confirmed was a past relationship.
