Singer and brand influencer Bruno Kiggundu, also known as Bruno K, alongside comedian and stage performer Patrick Salvado Idringi have made appearances in the new film titled The Plight of An Innocent Soul.

Directed by JD Kalenzi, the film, which addresses societal challenges, is produced by Sautiana Records in Kira, Wakiso. It narrates the story of a young woman named Pamela (played by Laura A. Okia) whose innocence is shattered by the horrors of abuse and disease. Her world becomes entangled with the heartbreaking consequences of a dysfunctional family plagued by violence and betrayal.

Seeking refuge from her family’s domestic violence issues, Pamela falls into the hands of a gatekeeper who sexually abuses her and infects her with HIV. Later, it's discovered that the gatekeeper is part of a chain of positive people, including Pamela’s family.

The film features other talented actors such as Sarafina Muhawenimana, Abdul Aziz Mutumba and Rashid Kyambadde.

Alfred Anyoti, the executive director of Sautiana Records, informed New Vision that including Bruno K and Salvado onto the cast is a strategic move aimed at utilising them to promote social change.

“Our artistes and stars are not just entertainers; they are agents of change. Through edutainment, we aim to reshape societal norms and foster a culture of empathy and understanding,” Anyoti explained.

He added that the project represents more than mere entertainment, but rather a reflection of the society we live in and how domestic violence could affect children at home. With this story, Anyoti aims to impact society and change narratives.

Discussing the project, Dr. William Kibalya, the director of research and development at Sautiana Records, suggested that the surge in cases of domestic violence and other related issues requires urgent response using all means, including film.

“Cases of domestic violence, HIV/AIDS prevalence, and family breakdowns are alarmingly high. Children raised in unstable environments are more susceptible to adopting harmful behaviors and this cycle perpetuates a cascade of negative outcomes, from fractured familial bonds to the proliferation of risky sexual behavior and the subsequent spread of HIV/AIDS,” he explained.

The Plight of an Innocent Soul is a 19-minute short film that conveys the intended message concisely. However, Anyoti and his team aim to expand the film into a series in hopes of shedding more light on societal issues such as child upbringing, torture, HIV/AIDS, domestic violence, and also focusing on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
