When to engine-flush your car

Aug 23, 2023

The fact that most of the cars on the road are imported as used, largely from Japan, they all do not have a clear maintenance history. Thus, considering engine flush is only wise to avoid unplanned future frustrations.

While many motorists skip car servicing as long as the car is moving, others follow their servicing schedule religiously.

Lack of service leads to the need for engine flush because it raises the chance of sludge building up in the engine.

Automotive technicians also argue that cars that are driven for short distances tend to succumb to a build-up of sludge, complicating the flow of oil.

Raquel Mugaga, the team leader at Raquel Motors says engine flush enables the breaking down of the sludge that is formed by old oil. This happens when a motorist skips five service sessions.

Kiwanuka Kisule, another mechanic, says a certain amount of engine flush chemical is put in the engine for about 30 minutes. This is to enable the chemical circulate through the engine, breaking down the sludge.

The fact that the sludge will have to go through the filter means that both the oil and filter should be replaced. The dirt goes to the oil sump.

Benefits of engine flush
The fact that most of the cars on the road are imported as used, largely from Japan, they all do not have a clear maintenance history. Thus, considering engine flush is only wise to avoid unplanned future frustrations.

This also applies to vehicles that have gone through internal engine repairs. Mugaga says skipping three service sessions is enough to warrant engine flush because as the oil gets dirty, a build-up of sludge also takes place.
