Singer Vinka has revealed that her song, Bailando, is being considered by the Recording Academy for possible Grammy nominations.

I have been selected for Grammy consideration, meaning I am among the artistes that could be considered for Best Global Music Performance and Best African Music Performance. And the song they are considering is Bailando," she said.

Vinka noted that because she chose to name her song after a Spanish word, bailando, meaning danicng, it had  universal appeal.

A song of the same title by Spanish singer Enrique Iglesias released in 2014 became the first Spanish language music video to have been viewed over a billion times on YouTube.

"It is a simple and catchy song. Bailando is used worldwide. The song has been appreciated," she said..

However, in April, singer Victor Ruz shared his opinion in regards to the song that didn’t leave Vinka impressed.

According to him, Bailando was poorly written and, therefore, fell short in the area of lyrical content.

Bailando is a good song… but poorly written. Nothing new just vibes,” Victor Ruz opined.

In a rejoinder, Vinka said the song was recorded for a particular target market. She has re-echoed her sentiments.

“Those who criticised the song are the minority, so they don’t deserve attention. It is not their song, they are not the target market,” said Vinka.

The other Ugandan artistes up for possible 2024 Grammy nominations are Eddy Kenzo, GNL Zamba, Jose Chameleone, and MC Norman.
