Former video vixen Uwera Mbabazi, renowned for her appearances in music videos such as Mpa Love by King Saha and Pallaso, Hannah by Pallaso, and Weshe by Ray G Rhigans, has issued a cautionary message to video vixens.

In an interview with New Vision, Mbabazi revealed that she has witnessed the unfortunate loss of many friends, fellow vixens, to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). She asserted that these friends attributed their predicaments to liaisons with various musicians and video directors.

Mbabazi asserted that video directors are often the intermediaries connecting vixens with artistes, emphasising the need for them to be accountable for the safety of these individuals.

She highlighted instances where artistes and directors deceive vixens with promises of money, favours, and roles, only to exploit and discard them later.

"Some of them are naive, seeking quick fame and money. Their primary focus is on the recognition gained from appearing in these music videos. Directors assure them of prominent roles, but they end up being taken advantage of," Mbabazi lamented.

Contrary to Mbabazi's perspective, renowned music video director Edrine Paul dismissed the notion that directors actively link vixens to artistes.

He acknowledged that it was previously easier for artists to engage with vixens, who were often self-managed and desperate for video opportunities.

However, Paul emphasised that the landscape has evolved, with vixens now professionally managed by companies, requiring permission for their involvement.

"No! These days it's not easy to get vixens. Back then, they were solo vixens without managers and too desperate to be in videos. Now, this trend has changed. To get a vixen now, you must get in touch with the company under which they fall, and when they come on set, they do whatever brought them and leave after work," he clarified.

While acknowledging the personal nature of sexual dynamics, Paul advised vixens to maintain professionalism to ensure their safety.

He urged all involved parties, including vixens, directors, and artistes, to recognise the reality of AIDS, exercise caution, use protective measures, and collectively combat the disease.
