Omziki Distribution, a music distribution platform based in Uganda, on June 22 expanded its operations to Ghana as part of its efforts to become Africa’s leading aggregator.
The company aims to maximise revenue and promote Africa’s streaming culture, while also pushing Ugandan music to a global audience.
Dennis Wantate, the Omziki East Africa regional director, said the expansion into Ghana will allow the company to tap into the West African region and subsequently expand further across Africa and the world.
Jonathan ‘Jonilar’ Nii Laryea, who has been appointed as the brand’s ambassador and country director in Ghana, has already stepped into his new role.
“Our objective has always been to expand across Africa, and our first step is opening our doors to Ghana. Once established here, we can proceed to other West African countries. I am delighted to announce that Jonathan ‘Jonilar’ Nii Laryea has been appointed as the brand’s ambassador and country director in Ghana,” Wantate stated.
Wantate added: “Jonilar’s contributions to the local digital music landscape have earned him a reputable position in the Ghanaian music industry, and his involvement with Omziki is expected to drive significant growth and success.”
In an interview with The New Vision, Jonilar expressed his gratitude for his new role, considering it a higher calling and an opportunity to influence the African narrative through music.
“I am honoured to be part of Omziki’s mission and eagerly anticipate using my expertise to amplify the African music scene,” he remarked.
Jonilar has actively advocated for the importance of digital platforms in Ghana’s music industry through public education initiatives and his dedicated podcast, Digital: A Music Education Series. His involvement is expected to benefit the Ugandan brand.
Omziki is one of the fastest-growing distribution platforms in Uganda, gaining popularity for its takedown services. It has attracted prominent personalities such as MC Kats, Emma Carlos, and others as ambassadors.
