It is no secret anymore that gates, besides enhancing security in a home, are for aesthetics as well. It is for that reason that many property owners do not just buy a finished gate.
They place orders for gates and house burglar-proof, that is of similar design, says Najib Mulwana, an events decorator and metal fabricator.
“There is a shift from buying an already finished gate, to property owners placing orders with metal fabricators. A welder will do the job of closing up the whole house and designing the gate.
In the past, the house windows and doors would have their own burglar design. That would even be painted a shade of colour unrelated to that of the gate. But today, the way the pipes are twisted and wringed into design, the similar design is replicated in the gate to create an aesthetic harmony in the home,” explains Mulwana.
He adds that property owners are particular in the selection of metal designs and thickness that will give them a secure home lock, but at the same time very attractive to the eye. So other than just order for any size of burglar proof that will be for ventilation, they go all out and order for window frames filling half the size of the wall.
Gaudy Nakyejwe, a sales manager, says some property owners, want. A homeowner may order for a gate that is 20 feet and burglar-proof frames that take up half the size of the wall. And they top it up with an intricate design, where the cost of one window, maybe three times that of an ordinary window! They want spacious and glamorous homes.
When a property owner makes such an order, it is important that they make at least a 50% to 80% deposit, to enable the welder acquire the necessary materials. This too, allows the property owner to schedule visits to check on the work progress. Without a deposit, the welder will not commit their resources to produce an order.
“A property owner may show interest in a gate design or better still order for a certain gate design, but without paying a commitment fee or deposit, there is nothing much that a welder can do. At least 50% of the total cost of the gate should be deposited to ease the fabrication process. We even encourage the property owners to make unannounced visits to check on the work progress, once they have made a cash deposit,” says Nakyejwe.
