The Kenzos on Cloud 9 after Grammy Award nod

Eddy Kenzo has been nominated for a Grammy Award, again. Over the weekend, the Ugandan singer was nominated in the category of Best African Music Performance at the Grammy Awards.

As expected, he and his wife have been on Cloud 9 since they got the news. Kenzo was nominated for his collaboration with Mehran Matin, Love and Hope. Kenzo, son of Chefe Ali, is up against stiff competition. 

The other nominees in the category are: Burna Boy (Love), Davido and Omah Lay (With You), Ayra Starr and Wizkid (Gimme Dat) and Tyla (Push 2 Start) The singer was overjoyed when he heard about his nomination. 

He took to social media to express his gratitude, thanking God and his supporters. Kenzo attributed his nomination to the uniqueness of his song Hope and Love. Kenzo wrote, "A special thanks to the @RecordingAcad voting members, it's another nomination and a milestone in our music history as Uganda. To my brother @MehranMatin7 — you're a star, congratulations.” 

His partner,  Phiona Nyamutoro, also shared in the celebration, posting, "Cheers to our second Grammy nomination my love @eddykenzoficial. To God be the glory as always". 

The category was introduced in 2024 to amplify African music and its creators, highlighting unique local expressions across the continent. The inaugural winner of the Best African Music Performance award was Tyla, a South African sensation, for her chart-topping track Water. The competition was fierce, with notable nominees including Davido, Burna Boy, Asake, Olamide and Ayra Starr. 

In 2025, the award went to Nigerian star Tems for her hit song Love Me JeJe. The nominees for the 2025 award included Burna Boy, Asake and Wizkid, Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay and Yemi Alade.
