In Uganda’s automotive culture, where the roar of an engine often commands more attention than the voice behind it, Brenda Wasajja has carved out a space entirely her own.

Known to many as Subie Queen, she has transformed a deep-seated passion for Subaru vehicles into a powerful personal brand, challenging gender norms and redefining what it means to be a woman in the fast-paced world of car culture.

Growing up in Kitovu, Masaka, Brenda Wasajja was not raised in a garage or surrounded by mechanics.

Yet from an early age, she displayed an independent mindset and a natural inclination toward spaces where women were not always expected to thrive.

Her journey into the automotive world did not follow a straight line, it began with exploration, personal branding, and entrepreneurship, but once she found her way to the driver’s seat, she never looked back.

The name “Subie Queen” was born from her unwavering connection to Subaru vehicles, a brand that has cultivated a devoted following among Ugandan automotive enthusiasts. What started as a personal appreciation for the machines soon evolved into something larger: a community-driven movement.

Uganda’s automotive scene, particularly the performance and enthusiasts’ circuit, has long been male-dominated.

Spaces like the Eastern Motor Club (EMC) and Forester Nation Uganda, communities built around Subaru fandom were traditionally seen as arenas for men. But Brenda entered these spaces with confidence, earning recognition not as a bystander but as a central figure.

Inspired by trailblazers like rally driver Susan Muwonge, Brenda embraced automotive culture as a symbol of confidence, independence, and resilience. She became known for her presence at meet-ups, her knowledge of the machines, and her ability to command respect in a space where women were often overlooked.

“It was never just about the car,” she has reflected. “It was about showing that a woman can be just as passionate, just as knowledgeable, and just as present in this culture as anyone else.”

What sets Subie Queen apart is her active participation. She did not simply attend automotive events, she became a fixture within them.

Her association with Subaru enthusiasts and performance culture positioned her as a leader and identity figure within the community. She broke stereotypes not through confrontation but through consistent presence, expertise, and authenticity.

Her passion also proved to be a gateway to broader influence. While her identity remains deeply tied to automotive culture, that foundation has allowed her to build a brand that extends into entrepreneurship, digital media, and lifestyle. Yet even as she expands into retail business, brand partnerships, and digital commerce, the engine at the center of it all remains her love for Subaru and the culture surrounding it.

Subie Queen’s rise has been amplified by social media, where her content, ranging from car showcases to behind-the-scenes looks at automotive events, has attracted hundreds of thousands of followers and millions of likes. Her digital presence offers a window into Uganda’s car culture through a unique lens: that of a woman who is both an enthusiast and a leader within the community.

Her storytelling combines personal narrative with automotive passion, allowing her to engage a broad audience that extends beyond car lovers to include youth, aspiring entrepreneurs, and women seeking representation in non-traditional spaces.

Navigating public perception has not always been smooth. As a prominent female figure in a male-dominated niche, Brenda has faced scrutiny and online criticism.

Yet these challenges have only strengthened her resolve. Her ability to maintain authenticity while weathering public attention has contributed to her evolving identity and enduring appeal.

Looking forward, Subie Queen shows no signs of slowing down. With potential expansions into larger business ventures, brand collaborations, and even media appearances on the horizon, her trajectory suggests continued growth as one of Uganda’s most recognisable personalities.

But regardless of where her journey takes her, the foundation remains the same: a genuine, unapologetic passion for automotive culture that has carried her from the streets of Kitovu to the forefront of a movement.
