The Archbishop of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Kampala, the Most Rev. Paul Ssemogerere, has paid tribute to the family of his predecessor, the Most Rev Archbishop Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga for deeply appreciating and remembering the good things that the deceased Prelate did for the Church and the country and also, for committing themselves to preserving his legacy.

He was delivering his homily during the memorial mass for Dr Lwanga’s third death anniversary at Rubaga Cathedral on Wednesday (April 3, 2024).

The mass that was also concelebrated by Nuncio Augustine Kasujja was graced by a good number of Dr Lwanga’s family members and folks from Kyabakadde, Kyampisi Sub-County, Mukono district where he hailed.

Rose Lukwago, who spoke on behalf of the family disclosed that they had started an organisation, Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga Foundation, in order to keep alive his flowery legacy. She said the foundation has an inclination to education, health care and environmental conservation.

“We are grateful to God for the life and good works of Archbishop Lwanga. Yes, he was a priest and Archbishop. But to us the family members, he was also a good parent. Our father Joseph Wamala died when some of us were still young. As the heir of our father, he became our loving parent.

He took good care of us. He educated us and taught us moral values. He always put it to us to study and work hard in order to secure our future and the future of our children.”

“He loved the people of our community at Kyabakadde and, he did many things to empower them intellectually and financially. He was very passionate about environmental conversation.

As a family, we felt the need to keep his legacy, which is why we started a foundation in his honour and memory. We encourage you to support this foundation. Support is not limited to financial donations. Good ideas are also very helpful,” said Lukwago.

The requiem mass was also concelebrated by the Nuncio, Archbishop Augustine Kasujja, the administrator of Rubaga Cathedral, the Very Rev. Fr. Achilles Mayanja and other priests.
