Singer Spice Diana, real name Hajarah Namukwaya, caused a dramatic scene on Sunday night after allegedly leaving with event equipment when organisers failed to pay her performance balance.
The incident happened at Labamba, a popular hangout spot in Bukomansimbi, where she had been scheduled to perform.
According to Spice Diana, the night was riddled with frustrations from the start. She claimed the event organisers initially blocked her from accessing the venue, forcing her into more than two hours of tense negotiations before she was finally allowed to take the stage.
Despite eventually performing, the situation did not improve. The singer says the organisers failed to honour their agreement by clearing her remaining payment.
Midway through her set, Spice Diana addressed the crowd, expressing her frustration and warning that she would expose the promoter for breaching their agreement.
When efforts to resolve the dispute reportedly collapsed, she took matters into her own hands, confiscating equipment such as computers, keyboards, and sound systems in a move she viewed as compensation for the unpaid balance.
Taking to Snapchat later, she vented about the ordeal, highlighting the strain of travelling long distances under pressure only to face non-payment.
“Normal people are enjoying their beds, you drive four hours under pressure… Mukama nayamba notuka with the poor roads of Uganda past midnight, and then no payment. I will die with someone, as always. I don’t joke with my money—the ghetto in me comes out,” she wrote.
The incident has since sparked debate among fans and industry observers, raising questions about professionalism, artist rights, and event management practices in Uganda’s entertainment scene.
