Located in an area where most people rely on selling khat (mairungi) to earn income, parents at times find it difficult to provide basic needs in addition to the high school fees charged by most schools.  This prompted the directors to provide half bursaries to the students to ensure they can  attain education without dropping out.

The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, has commended musician Ykee Benda (Wycliff Tugume) for his efforts in uplifting the girl-child in the country.

This was in her message delivered by Zombo Woman MP and Parliament Commissioner of Esther Afoyochan, who represented her at the commissioning of a girls' hostel at Golden High School, Kungu-Lutale cell in Kajjansi town council, Wakiso on Saturday June 15.

The hostel was named after Among.

Among thanked Ykee Benda and James Ssenyonga who are the co-directors of the school for providing half bursaries to the students, especially girls so as they can attain education.

Located in an area where most people rely on selling khat (mairungi) to earn income, parents at times find it difficult to provide basic needs in addition to the high school fees charged by most schools.

This prompted the directors to provide half bursaries to the students to ensure they can  attain education without dropping out. The school currently has 300 students and 70% of them are girls, which Ykee Benda says is encouraging.

“In a world where many obstacles hinder a girl’s dream, we must join hands in nurturing an environment where talents can flourish. I am pleased that Ykee Benda is not only a musician, but also one who minds about development of society," said Among in her speech read by Afoyochan.

She added that the school provides hope and an opportunity for the underprivileged girls to fulfill their dreams in life.

Among gave the directors sh20m to start on her earlier pledge of building a boys' dormitory when Ykee Benda and Ssenyonga visited her at Parliament on May 7, 2024.

Afoyochan also pledged to support the school by purchasing beds worth sh10m.

Ykee Benda thanked Among for the initiative she started, saying this will help uplift not only the school but the society around by grooming proper citizens.
Other people that attended the event included Wakiso Woman MP Betty Esther Naluyima and Wakiso district chairperson Matia Lwanga Bwanika
