Western Uganda-based music sensation Shine Omukiga, real name Shine Angella Nyonyozi has criticised event organisers over lack of professionalism in their approach.
Shine pointed at a recent incident in Mbarara city, where singer Priscilla Zawedde, also known as Azawi, and Reagan Muhairwe (Ray G) came onto the stage to perform at the same time, resulting in on-stage chaos.
The incident drew widespread criticism from Ugandans in western Uganda who deemed such practices intolerable.
In an interview with New Vision, Shine placed responsibility on event organisers and artist managers, emphasising the need for them to instill respect within themselves and the industry.
She said the event in Mbarara would have had a stage manager.
"I neither blame Ray G nor Azawi. The complete blame is on the organiser of the show who didn't prioritise a stage manager for his show. That was quite unprofessional," Shine said.
While acknowledging the importance of one's art, the Yeiwe Lover singer emphasised that art should speak for itself and advocated for humility if the artistic expression lacks the necessary resonance to command respect.
According to her, discipline is integral to artistic success, and without it, artistes may struggle to reach greater heights.
She expressed concern about the state of the Ugandan music industry, stating, "Art without discipline will deny you the exposure and opportunities you deserve."
Shine also criticised the behaviour of many Kampala-based artistes and artist managers, attributing their lack of crossover success to ego and indiscipline. She advised artiste managers to uphold professionalism and instill discipline in the artists they manage.
Additionally, she called for event organisers to appoint stage managers, ensuring a well-structured plan with schedules to prevent clashes on stage.
Shine Omukiga, recognied as one of the prominent music icons in western Uganda, has delivered hit songs such as Omukundwa, Olulimi, and Yeiwe Lover. Notably, she is the sister of popular Ugandan comedian Ann Kansiime and features in the real life show KanSeeMe.
