Songstress Priscilla Zawedde, popularly known as Azawi, has elucidated the reasons behind her decision to craft her recent album, Sankofa, entirely in English.

Despite awareness that the Ugandan audience favours Luganda, and songs in English might face challenges in the local music market, Azawi revealed during an appearance on Bukedde TV's Olugambo mu Kyenkya programme on February 7, 2024, that the album was intentionally tailored for a global audience rather than a domestic one.

The Quinamino sensation acknowledged criticism from some Ugandan music enthusiasts for her language choice, but assured them that the album, geared towards an international audience, has been well-received.

Azawi urged her fans to be patient, emphasising that she has plans to release more songs in Luganda and assuring them that her earlier Luganda releases are still circulating.

"It was designed specifically for the international audience, and it's gaining traction. While some of my fans might feel neglected due to the English language choice, rest assured that I have more songs in the pipeline that they will appreciate. Moreover, my earlier releases in Luganda are still actively circulating," she affirmed.
