Reality show 'Kampala Crème, causes buzz in Kampala

DSTV has unveiled a brand-new reality show set in Kampala. This is the latest attempt at a reality show centred around the real lives of Ugandan celebrities.

It has been a while since a home grown show of this kind graced the screen following short lived stints such as singer Bobi Wine and socialite Zari Hassan's reality shows many moons ago.

The new reality show named Kampala Crème, which promises to “dive into the extraordinary lives of Uganda's self-made influencers and celebrities” premiered on Sunday, January 13 and if the buzz surrounding it is anything to go by, it looks like this show might just be the godsend to revive Ugandan reality tv shows that follow the lives of celebrities.

Social media was ablaze in the days leading up to the premiere of Kampala Crème, with the show’s trailer stirring up conversation particularly over one cast member; Baby Gloria.

On Kampala Creme, Gloria stars along side three other familiar faces on Uganda’s media and entertainment scene, radio and television personalities Zahara Toto, Etania Mutoni as well as socialite and entrepreneur Mami Deb. 

Zahara Toto, real name Zahara Nalumansi, cut her teeth in Uganda's media industry as a radio/television presenter, DJ and former member of girl group Obsessions.
Etania is a DJ, emcee, TV and radio personality who rose to fame on the NTV Mix Party.

Both Zahara and Etania are known for their vibrant personalities and love for a good time making them an un-surprising choice for a reality tv show cast. Perhaps more mysterious of the bunch is Mami Deb, real name Deborah Nantongo, an entrepreneur. 

But what has taken centre stage in the conversation over the show is the appearance of Baby Gloria, real name Gloria Mulungi Senyonga, as a cast member.

Baby Gloria, who rose to fame as a child star, has built her brand as a gospel artiste with an uncontroversial track record. So, the appearance of the young star on a reality show alongside renowned party girls comes as a surprise to many, with audiences speculating over what this will mean for her image.

While some think that this is a move on Gloria’s part to shade her good girl image and mark her transition from child star to fully grown adult, this remains to be answered as the plot thickens on the new reality show Kampala Crème.
