With a litany of expletives directed at her, it was as well that Maritza saw the funny side. “I didn’t know I had crooked teeth until today. You guys are easily angered,” she tweeted on Monday, June 6.

With skyrocketing commodity prices in Uganda, kameeza (home care stipend) money is a thorny issue.

A couple of months ago, TV personality Canary Mugume drew the wrath of frustrated Ugandan keyboard warriors when he revealed that he leaves sh600,000 kameeza money at home daily.

Radio presenter Martha Byoga aka Maritza upped the ante when she said the money should be increased to sh1m daily.

“For me, kameeza money… I think upwards of one million shillings on a daily because if you have to keep me in the house, you’re paying for my presence,” Maritza partly said during a short visual interview.

“I am good for the atmosphere, there is a fee for that. There’s maintenance; I need to look good in your house,” the presenter added.

According to the Bank of Uganda Financial Capability Survey, out of the 22.8 million working Ugandans, only 1% earn more than sh1m, while 49.2%  earn less than sh150,000 per month.
