There was a sense of pride, nostalgia and quiet ambition in the room as Ntare School launched the countdown to its 70th anniversary with a dinner at Protea Hotel in Kampala.

Founded in 1956, Ntare School has grown into one of Uganda’s most respected secondary schools, regarded as a cradle of leadership. Over the years, the school has produced distinguished alumni across various fields including two sitting Heads of State, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and Paul Kagame.

As speakers at the launch emphasized, the milestone is not just about celebrating the past. “This anniversary is about reconnection and shared purpose,” said Headmaster Saul Rwampororo. “It gives us a moment to reflect on our proud history, while also engaging alumni and partners to help shape the next chapter of the Ntare story.”

Representing the Ntare School Old Boys Association, Apollo Kashanku described the anniversary as both a celebration and a call to action. “As Ntare marks 70 years of excellence, we are reflecting on a legacy built on discipline, integrity and service,” he said. “More importantly, we are reaffirming our commitment to the future, inviting all alumni and partners to be part of what comes next.”

One of the standout highlights of the anniversary programme is the upcoming release of Legacy of the Lion, a commemorative publication that will capture the spirit and story of Ntare through personal reflections, historical milestones and first-hand accounts. The book, produced by old students is expected to serve as a lasting tribute to the school. Alumni were encouraged to contribute their own stories.

On the day of the event, the school will also unveil the state of art gate. The battle for the best school gate is not about to end!

By the end of the evening, contributions towards the anniversary celebrations had reached Shs15.7m in cash, alongside pledges totaling Shs58m, as well as five cows and one bull. A collage of presidents, Kagame and Museveni, was auctioned on the night.

All eyes now turn to July 25, 2026, when the main celebrations will take place at the school grounds. The programme promises a rich blend of activities, including exhibitions, mentorship, career guidance sessions and storytelling. Ntare School has extended an open invitation to its alumni, partners and the wider public to be part of the celebrations.
