Filmmaker Nana Kagga has stated that her 12-part television series Beneath The Lies left her and the crew devastated when thieves broke into their offices one night and made away with all their hardware, bringing an end to the project.

“It stopped because we got robbed,” Nana narrated.

Prior to the theft, Nana revealed that they wrapped up the day like they normally did and decided to go to party at a bar in Kololo, Kampala.

"We got a call at 5:00am that the whole thing; editing suite and computers had been taken. The person had also disabled the cameras. So, it was an inside job. I don’t know who did it, but whatever happened, happened and I don’t like to talk about it because we had sunk our life savings into it," she said.

The hiccup didn’t dampen her spirits though. She got cinematographer Loukman Ali to reshoot another one of six seasons that made it to the African Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, competing with Nigerian and South African productions.

However, it turned out to be so good that the host of the award night, Nigeria’s I.K, doubted that it was Ugandan production.

“I.K the host said no, this can’t be Uganda, must be a spelling mistake, it’s Ghana. Me and Cedric (Babu) looked at each other. We didn’t get the credit Uganda deserved, but we were in the same category with Nigerians and South Africans. And it was shot by a Ugandan crew,” narrated Nana while being hosted on the Master Bus podcast on YouTube.

Beneath The Lies aired on Urban Television in 2016. The series had a star-studded cast – Flavia Tumusiime, Natasha Sinayobye, Gaetano Kaggwa, Hellen Lukoma, Rabadaba, Deedan Muyira, Cedric Babu, Patrick Salvado Idringi, Daniel Omara, and Susan Naava.
