Namirembe Cathedral Choir performed its much-loved Christmas concert, Carols by Candlelight (a service of nine Lessons and Carols) at the cathedral last Sunday.
The late evening performance attracted an extraordinary number of ecumenical Christians and other choral music lovers. The gigantic church was full up.

As usual, the choir performed Christmas hymns, some of which were written by local composers. At some moments, the choir sang popular congregational hymns, which gave all people the opportunity to participate in the singing.
The repertoire was interspersed with messianic scriptures read by selected Christians.

The Hon Justice Catherine Bamugemereire was among the Christians who read the scriptures. Buganda’s Deputy Katikkiro and finance minister, Robert Wagwa Nsibirwa and the Bishop Emeritus of Namirembe, Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira, also took readings.

As always, and as expected, the all-male Namirembe Cathedral Choir put up a superb performance, which attracted a standing ovation from its fans.
The choir’s highly experienced choral conductor, John Sekibaala, and the organist Paul Luggya, nonetheless deserve even greater credit for the concert well-delivered.
